Confidentiality and conflicts
Initial contact does not create an attorney-client relationship. We run a conflict check before scheduling. If a conflict exists, we will tell you immediately and, where appropriate, suggest a referral. Everything you share with us before and during your consultation is protected by attorney-client privilege from the moment the session begins.
Counties served
We practice in Davidson, Williamson, Rutherford, Wilson, Sumner, and Cheatham counties. Matters in other Middle Tennessee counties are considered case by case.
What happens next
From first contact to a clear plan.
We keep the intake process simple, fast, and completely confidential. Here is exactly what to expect after you reach out.
We confirm and schedule
Within one business day of your submission, our intake coordinator will contact you to confirm there is no conflict and schedule your 60-minute consultation with Eleanor or Daniel.
You prepare, we prepare
We will ask you to share a short written summary before the meeting so we can arrive ready to give you substantive guidance rather than spending your hour on background.
The consultation
A full 60-minute session with a named partner. In person, by phone, or by video. The consultation fee is $200, credited to your engagement if you retain the firm.
A clear path forward
By the end of the consultation you will understand your options, a realistic timeline and cost range, and whether Mercer and Cole is the right fit for your matter.

About your consultation
What to expect in your first meeting.
How much does the consultation cost?
$200 for a full 60 minutes with Eleanor or Daniel. The fee is credited to your engagement retainer if you hire the firm. Paying for the consultation lets us prepare for your specific facts in advance.
What should I bring?
A short timeline of what has happened (one page is enough), any existing court orders or filings, and a rough picture of household income, assets, and debts. Do not worry if you do not have everything — we will tell you what else we need.
Can I meet by phone or video?
Yes. The initial consultation can be held in person at our Union Street office, by phone, or by secure video. You choose the format that works best for you.
What if there is a conflict of interest?
We run a conflict check before every consultation. If a conflict exists, we will tell you promptly and, where we can, suggest an appropriate referral. You will not be charged a consultation fee if we are unable to represent you due to a conflict.
Begin today
The first step is the hardest. We will make the next ones easier.
