About

Five people, one Probat, twelve years.

North Field was founded in 2014 by Adelaide Marchetti, who had spent eight years roasting at Stumptown in Portland, Oregon, and Owen Tremblay, who had spent six years importing green coffee from Central America. We are still those two and three colleagues.

The team

Everyone who touches your coffee.

Adelaide 'Addy' Marchetti

Founder & head roaster

Q Grader since 2013. Founded North Field after eight years at Stumptown in Portland, Oregon. Roasts every Tuesday.

Owen Tremblay

Co-founder & green buyer

Travels to origin four times a year. Has built direct relationships with seven of our partner farms since 2016.

Marisa Okafor

Wholesale lead

Runs every wholesale cupping, every install, every dial-in. Former lead barista at Belleville.

Henry Lefebvre

Cafe manager

Manages the bar, the schedule, and the pastry program. Nine years on bar across Portland.

Sage Whitman

Roastery production

Bags, labels, and ships every order that goes out our door. The reason orders go out within 24 hours of roasting.

The roaster

A 1980 Probat UG-22. Restored, not replaced.

We roast on a 1980 Probat UG-22 we restored ourselves in our first year. 22 kilo drum, gas-fired, manually controlled airflow. Newer roasters are easier. None of them sound or look like a UG-22.

We roast every Tuesday morning from 6a to 1p. If you are in the neighborhood, you can watch through the window. If you ask, we will let you in for the first cup off the cooling tray.

FAQ

Questions we get all the time.

How fresh is your coffee when it ships?+

We roast every Tuesday morning. Online orders placed by Monday at 4p ship Wednesday and arrive within 2 to 4 business days in the lower 48. No coffee on our shelf is more than 7 days off-roast.

Do you ship whole bean only?+

Yes. Coffee starts losing aroma within an hour of grinding. We are happy to recommend a grinder. The Fellow Opus and Baratza Encore ESP are both excellent at the $200 mark.

What is direct trade?+

It means we buy green coffee directly from the farm or co-op rather than through a commodity importer. We visit, we negotiate the price, and we usually pay well above the C-market. Seven of our farms are direct; the rest are bought through specialty-grade importers we have worked with for years.

Do you do subscriptions?+

Yes. Pick a coffee or rotate through our roaster's choice, ship every 1, 2, or 4 weeks. 10% off every order, cancel anytime. Most of our subscribers are on the 2-week rotation.

Can I bring my own cup?+

Yes please. $0.50 off every drink when you do. We also sell KeepCup and Miir tumblers at the counter.
